How does it work?

If you have a tattoo that you regret, laser removal is a safe and effective way to remove those unwanted tattoos. Not all lasers are the same and not just any laser can safely remove tattoos. JD Aesthetics Ltd clinic, Cheshire has the most advanced active Q-Switch laser – the only type of laser that is clinically effective for tattoo removal. Our band of choice is Lynton Lasers.

Tattoos are made of two main types: The Indian ink amateur tattoo or the multi-coloured professional tattoo. Certain colours of ink are easier to treat i.e. black and red colours in the tattoo respond best to treatment, but, yellow, purple, pastel colours and fleshy toned pigment can be more difficult. Blue and green can only be faded down due to needing another laser which is a Ruby laser.

  • You will need a treatment around once every 6-8 weeks and a course of 6-12 treatments is usually needed. The treatment itself usually takes between 10 and 30 minutes.

  • The area can feel tender and swollen for around 48 hours after treatment and if any blisters and grazes form, they usually heal within 7-10 days.

  • An instant whitening of the ink is seen but this generally fades quickly. The area is likely to feel tender for a few hours and can be red and swollen for up to 48 hours. Bleeding may occur at the time of the treatment, but this is usually light and a dressing will be applied. Some tattoos may form a graze or blister which must be left to heal naturally. Some people do experience a lightening or darkening of the treated skin, although in most cases this returns to normal after a few months. Change to skin texture and scarring is possible, though very uncommon and is more likely if grazes or blisters are not allowed to heal naturally.

  • Most clients describe the sensation as similar to a hot pin prick or the flick of an elastic band. Whilst the treatment can be quite uncomfortable, most people tolerate the treatment well. We also use cool packs during and after treatment.

  • If the tattoo is one of the easy colours to treat (black and red colours) then we reduce it to the point where it almost looks gone. We say typically not 100% but 90-95% so that when looking at it you would never know it was a tattoo, you couldn’t depict the outline or wording, but you would still see a tiny bit of ink that could look like the last bits of a bruise. With the trickier colours (light colours such as yellow, flesh tones, or purple and pastel colours) the fading will be less and is more variable.

  • Item descriptionOur advanced Q-switch technology works by allowing the light produced by the laser to pass through the skin and break up the tattoo ink into tiny particles. The body then disposes of these fragments via its immune system. It usually takes several treatment sessions to ensure success, with regular intervals between sessions.

  • Yes! However with our laser we can only fad down the ink, this is due to needing a Ruby laser that JD Aesthetics currently don’t have the call for.

  • The answer is yes we can. We commonly work on eyebrows that have had cosmetic tattoos with a very good outcome. We work round the hairs and people find in just a few treatments they can see a good fade. We don’t treat eyeliner at all as it is too close to the eye, and we don’t treat lip liner much as it often changes colour instantly to a dark grey colour, which is not very desirable. However if you are happy for the pigment change we can then treat it as a darker ink.
